I. Introduction
A.Background info on drug addiction
a. state focus
B. Research Question
b. How can the use of street drugs lead to addiction in teens?

II. Reasons
A. Personality- risky behavior, depression…etc.
B. The physiology of drugs- changes to the brain involuntary leading to uncontrollable drug use and dependence
C. Developmental factors- genetics/inherited
D. Peer pressure/Social factors

III. Counterarguements
A. Nicotine is more addictive than street drugs
a. the side effects aren't as severe as seen in drugs
B. Addiction in only a matter of will power and people can stop using if they really set their mind to it.
b. people still relapse over and over before they are able to stop
C. Parents limiting the access their teens have to drugs decrease addiction and incorporating a "good way of life"
c. drugs can still be found elsewhere or be presented with them other than at the home.

IV. How addiction is a problem (dangerous side effects)
A. Ability to pay attention
B. Mask emotional problems such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, or hallucinations
C. Associated with health problems ranging from HIV/AIDS to liver damage depending on how the body takes each kind of drug
D. Death by suicide or homicide

V. Conclusion
A. Restate Thesis/Claim
The use of drugs in teens have serious side effects that should be taken more serious which can lead to addiction by changes in the brain involuntary leading to uncontrollable drug use and dependance due to the physiology of the drug. This happens through social and development factors as well as through the personality of an individual. These all influence the likely-hood of a teen struggling with addiction.

VI. Solution
A. Parents communicating and limiting access to substances
B. Extracurricular activities
C. Looking out for warning signs or symptoms such as lying or physical effects.
D. Seeking treatment to the direct problem
